Recommended workplace heights and clearances are given for a typical standing VDU workplace where frequent interaction between the operator and the VDU occurs. Foot clearances (B and C) are the same as those shown in Figure IIA-7. More knee clearance (A) is allowed since the operator may wish to sit on a stool during some data entry operations. At least 70 cm (28 in) of table width (D) is needed to have room for the papers from which the computer data entry is drawn. The table surface (F) determined by the recommended heights for the keyboard (G) and screen (H). For occasional lookup or data entry tasks on a VDU, these dimensions are less critical.
contained area, and cleaning and decontamination facilities. The human factors considerations are less well studied. Some of the factors that should be considered when designing a glove box are the following:
- Glove port, or opening, height (seated and standing).
- Glove port diameter.
- Separation between the glove ports.
-Reach limitations.
- Biomechanical constraints (very task-dependent).
- Visual constraints.
- Seat height and adjustability (for seated operations).
-Glove type and size.
- Location of controls and switches.
- Location of pass-through compartments into and out of the box.
- Access for cleaning, decontamination, or product changes.
- Design of tools, trays, and containers to be used inside the box.
- Probable task durations (time of continuous work in the glove box).
