While there have been intense personal examples of friends falling out on social media, a survey of protesters released this month from The Asia Foundation reveals a surprisingly high level of tolerance.
The "Profile of the Protesters" report showed 83% of United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) supporters would accept friends of a different political persuasion, as would 80% of those supporting Mr Suthep's PDRC.
The anti-government protesters were more likely than the UDD red shirts to end a friendship over politics, 15% to 9%, but the report concluded there was "no significant difference" between the two.
Social media and Thailand's political conflict don't mix well for many people. Relationships and longtime friendships are being broken every day. Here's an example.
