In Pakistan the consumption of chicken meat is increasing and Pakistan produces 0.514 million metric ton chicken meat and 9618 million eggs per year. The per capita meat consumption is 4.26 kg per annum. Previous studies have indicated the presence of mycotoxins in poultry feed. The contaminated animal feed is the major cause of exposure of these mycotoxins to animals and therefore ultimately to humans. Considering the above facts and very limited studies on theoccurrence and incidence of these mycotoxins in chicken meat and eggs from Pakistan, the present study is designed to investigate the
level of AFs, OTA and ZEN in chicken meat and eggs. The results of the present study will be helpful to implement strict regulation and create awareness of the health hazards associated with these toxins.
