Tom learned quickly, and a few months later he got a job running the Western Union telegraph office, which was located in a jewelry store in downtown Port Huron. He worked long hours and even came back to the shop after dinner to practice on the machine. Tom had already started sleeping less, a habit that he would later become famous for. He tried to take small naps whenever he could, a few minutes here or there, sitting in a chair or lying under his worktable., Tom would sleep only four hours a night and probably wouldn’t have slept at all if he didn’t have to. The longer he was awake, the more work he could get done!
