Completely amazing, quick easy and satisfying. You will find satay in most restaurants, but as with lots of Thai food, it’s much better to eat on the street. You will see many vendors all over Thailand, grilling their satay over hot coals.
The chicken is almost always moist and cooked to perfection, satay sauce is sweet and a little bit spicy, it is also often served with a salad with sour dressing to compliment the rich sauce.
Often if you order satay in a restaurant it is fried rather than grilled, since most restaurants won’t have the necessary charcoal grill that gives the chicken its amazing flavour.
So because it is so much better on the street, I cannot give you a restaurant recommendation in Koh Samui. However the best satay sauce I tried without a shadow of a doubt was from one of the street stalls on the Mae Nam walking street during the Thursday Night Market. This happens every week and the market is a great place to try a wide variety of Thai street food, including these grilled favourites.
