Materials andmethods: The CQhexaneextractwasfractionatedsequentiallywithbenzene,dichlor-
omethane, ethylacetate,andmethanol.TheexaminationofCQextractanditsfractionswasguidedby
bioassaysforalkalinephosphatase(ALP)activityduringthedifferentiationofMC3T3-E1osteoblastic
cells. ThecellsweretreatedwithorwithouttheCQextractanditsfractionsforaperiodoftime,andthen
the stimulatoryeffectofthealkalinephosphataseenzyme,abonedifferentiationmarker,was
investigated.Thecompoundsobtainedwerestructurallyelucidatedusingspectroscopictechniques
and re-evaluatedforactivityduringbonedifferentiation.
