16. Palpate the brachial pulse, and pump up blood pressure cuff until the pulse is no longer palpable, pump up cuff 30 mm Hg above the point that the pulse disappeared.
17. Place the diaphragm side on the brachial pulse
18. Screw the control knob then inflate the rubber bulb
19. Unscrew the control knob to deflate the cuff slowly and listen to the systolic sound and diastolic sound (Korotkoff’s sounds) and read the mercury level.
Phase I = The first appearance of faint, clear repetitive tapping sounds. (SYSTOLIC) Phase II = Muffled or swishing sounds are softer and longer than phase I sounds.
Phase III = A return of distinct, crisp, and louder sounds.
Phase IV = Muffled, less distinct, and softer.
(DIASTOLIC)
Phase V = All sounds disappearing completely
20. Report correct systolic and diastolic number
21. Keep away all equipment correctly
