Such high stocking densities in combination with
extensive fish culture should lead to interspecific
competition. T. pectoralis is subjected to intraspecific
competition, as can be derived from the inclusion of
the variable `T. pectoralis stocking weight' in the
regression equation, but also to interspecific competition,
mainly with the macrophyte feeder
B. gonionotus, as can be derived from the inclusion
of the variables `total fish stocking weight',
`B. gonionotus SGR' and `B. gonionotus percentage of
total stocking weight' (Table 4). From the results, it
appears that T. pectoralis is the big loser.
