Citizenship Behavior at work
For many employees working involves more than showing up and carrying out required duties in this section we turn our attention to research examining the relations between commitment to the organization that many believe are particularly critical to organizational success-the so-called organizational citizenship or extra-role behaviors the extra-role or organizational organizational citizenship construct has been defined and operationalized in various ways 1991 katz 1964 organ 1988 most scholars agree however that it includes work-related behavior that goes above and beyond that dictated by organizational policy and one job description citizenship or extra-role measures typically include such things as providing extra help to coworkers volunteering for special work activities being particularly considerate of coworkers and customers being on time and making suggestions when problems arise
