During our field survey, R. ellipticus plants with E. tetragonana
and E. ustulana were found in variable habitats, most occurring
along roadsides, artificial forest, hillside, grassland and graveyards.
Our survey was conducted in eight counties of five cities during six
seasons over 3 years. From the permanent sites, 5699 leaf-rolls
were collected in a total length of 6165.9 m of cranes within 396
R. ellipticus clusters. The impact of the moth rolling varied with
the changes of season and sites. The average impact per crane
was 0.993 rollings/m and the maximum and the minimum were
7.28 and 0.02 rollings/m respectively, see (Table 6 and Fig 2).
In the field sites, E. tetragonana and E. ustulana leaf-rolls were
only found on R. ellipticus rather than the neighboring Rubus species.
We collected 443 leaf-rolls made by E. tetragonana and 351
leaf-rolls by E. ustulana and the emerging frequency of E. tetragonana
was low in Honghe and Wenshan (Table 5).
