I am not sure if you are doing this in the Philippines yet but just in case I am sending you this info.
Re : Spot Varnish
We just exhibited at Label Expo in the US and we had a lot of response from the label producers for our new LED UV strobes.
We designed the UV strobes for security printers but it turns out they are very popular with the label producers as well.
It seems the label producers are doing a couple things that require the UV strobes :
1st They are over coating labels with a clear varnish (especially pharma labels). This coating / varnish is to make the label shiny and moisture resistant but they want to leave a little box of the label uncoated so a date can be stamped on the package. (the ink jet date stamp will not stick to the shiny coating)
2nd They are coating minor parts of labels with clear varnish (like an extra colour) to make that area stand out, shine and reflect light better. It is popular with sunscreen labels and cosmetics but is now becoming more popular in other industries.
In all cases the vanish or coating is clear so they are not able to see this with a standard strobe and their automatic inspection systems are also not able to check this area so they have no way of checking to see if the varnish/coating is in register while they are running.
One component of this varnish/coating is an optical brightener and one characteristic of the optical brightener is it glows when exposed to a certain wave length of UV light. The same wave length of our LED UV strobes .
This means they can now check the print quality of their clear varnish while running at full production speed.
The most popular unit for this right now is the LED 3 UV hand held but we can offer most of our line up in UV versions.
If you are already doing spot varnish the you might want to think about our UV strobes.
