Age validation of the tropical freshwater fish can be done via daily rings interpretation. Counting the annuli is not useful in estimating the age of year 0+ fish, which first annulus haven’t yet formed, and many of the tropical species with short life span (Oxenford and Hunte 1983). Therefore, daily rings on otolith provide the alternative method to age the tropical fishes (Oxenford and Hunte 1983; Rahman and Cowx, 2006). Results from this study showed the possibility to apply the method to tropical freshwater fishes. Increasing numbers of sampling site is needed to compare the differences in growth rates of C. striata between the lentic- and lotic-environments. However, this preliminary result showed that there was no different in growth rates between the two environments.
