A related concern is the extent to which the current healthcare financing system gives people’s a subjective “peace of mind”. A 2012 survey by Mindshare revealed that 72% of respondents agreed with the statement “we cannot afford to get sick these days due to the high medical costs”.24 The staggering agreement raises question about whether healthcare remains affordable and accessible for the majority of Singaporeans. If healthcare is still affordable on average, further questions ought to be raised about the reasons for the gap between the actual and perceived cost of healthcare.
