This study proposes a new industrial cyclone design using
30-, 45- and 60- angles for the normal scroll inlet section.
The fluid dynamics profiles and performance parameters were
presented, analyzed and discussed. The following conclusions
can be drawn from the results obtained in this study.
– The RSM provides a successful representation of the
behavior of gas and gas–solid turbulent swirling flow in
cyclones with industrial characteristics.
– The proposal of scroll inlet section angle resulted in an
under-predicted gas velocity when there are solids in the
flow. New characteristics of turbulence and tangential
velocity were obtained by application of the RSM.
– Parameters such as pressure drop and collection efficiency
indicated that this inlet proposal can offer an alternative for
improving equipment efficiency and reducing power
consumption in industrial plants.
