Yes, I never give much hope to computers that have been "attempted fix" by the owner or friend who "knows computers".
I rarely take those in, or if so, then for data transfer or recovery. Then and only then if the unit is new, like two years or less, then I'll take it, but telling them expect little. And I'll work on it as a side job when I have time.
The reason I do that, I like a challenge and starting on one that comes to me in a box full of pieces is just that; like a puzzle. Also, you may end up with a parts computer at no or very very little cost.
For your case, a Dell keyboard (depending on exact model) can be bought for cheaps on the Bay or from
www.parts-people[dot]com, they specialize in Dell parts, and are "local" for me in Texas.
Did they tell what the "original" problem was BEFORE they attempted to fix it?
