Fertilized eggs were collected from wild caught broodstock (Møre and Romsdal county, Western Nor-way) and incubated at the facilities of Havlandet Marin Yngel, Florø. The fish were weaned on a commercial formulated feed (Marin 030 and 050, Ewos A/S, Bergen, Norway) containing 60% protein, 12% fat and 12% carbohydrates. Subsequently, the fish were trans-ported to the experimental facilities of Sogn and Fjordane University College, Sogndal, where they were held in 7000l tanks at ambient temperature (8– 9 °C) until two days prior to the start of the experiment.
