talk to bar and hotel owners here and they will tell you things are pretty desperate. so as per above there are bargains to be had - just about every shop in the new central shopping mall is discounting. however the reaction of some thais is the opposite of what you would expect - when sales fall they put prices up to gouge what they can from whatever customers they can get - i can think of one hotel that upped its rate from b700 to b1000 recently. i think probably any bar in pattaya would be sold today if any sort of reasonable offer came.
as an illustration of how trade has fallen i know of one bar bought six months back, by a regular patron, who arranged to pay for it in 3 lumps, every other month - he has defaulted on the last payment as he can't afford it as he has lost so much in the last 3 months ( i'm told that in thai law he has now broken the contract, lost the money he paid and ownership reverts to the original owner, who if this is true must be laughing, having received 66% of the supposed value of the bar in cash, and then gets the bar back)
