The results of the post-hoc analyses of three select groups of parents are presented to illustrate the level of knowledge and practice of those parents who should be most familiar with particular types of child restraint systems (Figure 1). The parents of 3-year-old children were the most successful of the three groups at recognising (73.6%) and using (51.7%) the appropriate child restraint shown for that child age group: a forward-facing car seat (Figure 1). Only 36.4% of parents of infants (aged 1 year or less) recognised the photograph of a rear-facing infant seat, and only 25.8% of parents of infants indicate that they use or have used such a seat. Fewer parents, 28.2%, of 6 year olds recognised the appropriate child restraint system: the booster seat; 14.1% reported present or past use of a booster seat (Figure 1).
