EI is an ability to lead ourselves and our relationships effectively. It has been defined as the ability to observe one’s own and others’ feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information to direct one’s thinking and actions. EI is composed of personal competence and social competence. Self-awareness and self-management are reflections of personal competence, influencing the way the leader manages him/herself. Social awareness and relationship management reflect social competence,which affects how the leader manages relationships with others.
