Perth is the most remote city in the world, and the start of my 2,700-mile train journey to Sydney. The area between Perth and Kalgoorlie the first stop on my trip, is know as Golden Outback and is one of the driest places on earth. Kalgoorlie itself is the gold-mining capital of Australia and is a living museum. You can even explore an old mine while you're there
Between Kalgoorlie and Port Augusta, the India Pacific train travels though the Nullabor Plain on the longest straight piece of railway track in the world. There are no buildings, no people, no roads, and no plants..just a rocky, sandy desert. AS Nullarbor means "no trees" in Latin, it is a very good name! You may think this part of the journey sounds boring , but i loved it. From my window I saw exotic kangaroos and a rare great wedge-tailed eagle with a wingspan of two meters!
