.Because increase of narrow leaves in turn reduces
leaf biomass, sesame, which is generally classified as a short-day
plant (Sen and Pain, 1948; Suddihiyam et al., 1992; Kumazaki et al.,
2008), should be cultivated under a long photoperiod in order to
prolong the vegetative phase and hence production of broad leaves.
However, few reports indicate the relationship between photoperiod
and the leaf vegetative growth, because most studies have
focused on seed production.
