Land conservation
The land and its soil are used to produce food fiber timber coal and minerals. Land provides space for housing, transportation, industry, commerce, recreation, and waste disposal. Land supports diverse wildlife habitats and often provides attractive aesthetic qualities. Land price is one measure of land value, but the value of wildlife habitat and aesthetic qualities is not easily determined by economic measures. Some lands are so special that they are protected and maintained as parks and wilderness areas in pristine condition to protect rainforests, old growth timber, endangered species, and other unique resources.
