Second, the effects of extremely deviant employees on performance may be stifled to a degree in the
aggregation process. In other words, aggregating WDB within a branch can conceal the disproportionate
impact that a small number of extremely deviant employees may have on business unit performance.
To determine whether the present findings were strongly influenced by employees with extreme levels
of deviance, the data were reanalyzed after removing all participants with extreme scores on the WDB
measure (greater than two standard deviations above the mean). The results pattern that emerged was
almost identical to the pattern that emerged with the full sample, which undermines the claim that it is a
small number of extremely deviant employees who are responsible for the present findings.
