The Land Transport Department is pushing to see all public buses and trucks carrying dangerous goods to have their GPS system readied before the end of the year.
Director-General of the Land Transport Department Somchai Siriwatanachoke said that, since the beginning of 2013, the department has been stepping up safety precautions for public buses operating between Bangkok and other provinces and for trucks carrying dangerous goods.
In doing so, such buses and trucks have been required to install the Global Positioning System (GPS) to allow for tracking and for the control of the speed and the working hours of the drivers.
Currently, out of around 800 buses under the supervision of the Transport Company, 751 of them have completed the installation, said Mr. Somchai.
He expects all buses to be installed with GPS by the end of June.
Mr. Somchai added that around 300 trucks carrying dangerous goods, which have been registered from January 1, 2013, have already been equipped with GPS Tracking.
The Land Transport Department Director-General went on to say that the rest of buses and trucks are to complete the installation by the end of the year.
