On day 21, the
improvement of villus diameter in the palygorskite groups in all the
intestinal segments tested indicated that dietary supplementation with
palygorskite had benefited the intestinal morphology by widening the
villi. Compared with control, the villus height in the ileum on both day
21 and day 42, and the jejunum on day 42, were all numerically
increased. This was associated with an increased villous surface area
and improved absorptive capacity.
