Bangkok was founded by king Rama I of the Chakri Dynasty in 1782 or 2325 B.E. Thai people called it Krung Thep,which means City of Angels.In the past,Bangkok was called "Venice of the East" by foreign travelers because there were a lot of canals in Bangkok.People used these canals as ways for transportation.Now,there are very few canals in Bangkok.Most of the canals were filled.They were made into roads.There are lot of cars and buses run all over the city.However,people still travel and transport by boats on the Chao Phaya River,which is the longest river in Thailand
