On average final gDNA yield and obtained gDNA yield
per ml of blood was significantly higher when using the
modified salting out method but 260/280 nm ratio was
slightly lower to the results obtained using the traditional
salting out method. However, when performing statistical
analyses (independent t-test and ANOVA) on the results
obtained, there were no statistically significant differences
for final gDNA yield and obtained gDNA yield per ml of
blood (P = 0.176 for both measures) and for 260/280 nm
ratio (P = 0.116). Because both methods proved to be
comparable in terms of effectiveness, we decided to compare them against a commercially available DNA
extraction kit, believed to be more effective and efficient than the ones previously mentioned.
