Offspring from selected farmed salmon (FP) were significantly
greater than offspring from wild salmon (WP), averaging
4.54 ± 0.12 kg and 3.20 ± 0.10 kg, respectively. Since the FP and
WP were reared communally under the same conditions, the 42%
greater body weight of the FP reflects differences due to selection
for faster growth since the 1970’s (Bentsen & Thodesen, 2005).
