Decisions in these and other countries have
been influenced by the adoption, of a
worldwide standard for food irradiation. The
standard was adopted by the Codex
Alimentarius Commission, a joint body of FAO
of the United Nations and the WHO. The
results of a Joint Expert Committee on Food
Irradiation study stated that irradiation of any
food commodity up to 10 kGy presents no
toxicological or nutritional hazards in foods.
