Task: Bolt pieces together.
Prerequisites: SEN 13, SEN 19, S&L 18, VOC 9
Concept: One of the most important aspects of this sample lesson is the introduction of the use of tools. The skill of threading bolts (VOC 9) is put to a more practical use in this exercise by using the bolts to attach two plates. A specific work task could be similar to this activity, but the most important outcome is the assembly of something
Behavioral Objective: When requested to 'please put this together: the student will use nuts, bolts, and nvo plates to assemble a specific pattern that has been taught and will secure the product using either pliers or a wrench to a 9096 accuracy level for 20 trials.
Materials: Bolts with matching nuts, meta/ or wood plates with hole drilled through
them that are slightly larger than the selected bolt size, and slip joint pliers or an ap-
Task Analysis:
1. Review with the student each of the prerequisite skills, expanding the tighten¬ing of a nut (VOC 9) to tightening the nut all of the v., down the bolt.
2. Demonstrate to the student a specific pattern of assembly using bolts, nuts, and at lesst two plates to form a specific outcome. Include the use of pliers or a wrench in this activity.
3. Physically guide the student through the process perfornied in Step 2, using verbal praise for all cooperative efforts.
A. Reduce physical guidance and replace with gestural and step-by-step verbal prompts, using the same pattern.
5. Reduce all prompting until only the total-task request of "please put this together, needed.
