Growth, survival, and production of shrimp
In the feeding trays, the feedstuffs were eaten in the order: snails, cassava, maize. Sometimes,
maize was not consumed. Some uneaten feed and shrimp feces may have supported
the natural productivity that may have also contributed to shrimp growth.
Table 2 presents the growth, survival, and production of shrimps in the different treatments.
Shrimps given cassava and snails were significantly longer (carapace length, 40.3 mm) than shrimp grown with other feeds. Survival ranged from 88 to 99% and did not
differ among the treatments. Significantly higher shrimp production was attained with mixed
feeds of snails with either maize or cassava. All shrimps grew at an almost identical rate
during the first 30 days of culture, but those given cassava and snails did better thereafter
