Disassembly of the GT engine at the manufacturer’s workshop revealed that a first stage compressor blade had failed at a location slightly above the blade root area. The compressor rotor and case assemblies were subjected to Visual Inspection, Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI), Stereo-Microscopy, Metallography, Chemical Analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), and Hardness Testing.
