What is being done to reduce health disparities?
The Australian government and the states work in partnership with indigenous communities in order to close long-standing health gaps through a range of programs and targeted health care funding. Extra subsidies for services, training programs, and outreach services are also being directed to people in rural areas and a safety net is in place to improve access to care for low-income people. The reporting framework of the National Health
Performance Authority requires government service providers to report on measures of equity and access, including targeted reporting on particular groups such as Indigenous Australians. The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare also publishes regular reports on the health and welfare of Indigenous Australians.
