Undereating can also be induced by meals being too low in energy content or energy density (23); however, the energy densities of food products in the current study were with in normal ranges. The average total energy density for meals and test products eaten in this study at baseline was 1.5–1.6 kcal/g (breakfast: 1.1 6 0.1 kcal/g; lunch: 1.3 6 0.03 kcal/g; dinner: 1.6 6 0.04 kcal/g; snack: 4.4 6 0.12 kcal/g; study product: 0.58 kcal/g).
