Several researchers found that there are some common challenges faced by both EFL students and ESL teacher from all over the world. Most of the problem that has in the student is related to low self-efficacy, negative attitude towards English language, as well as the first language interference. Learning a second language in an environment which doesn’t support in using that language is already not motivating but what is worst is the obstacle caused by the influences from their first language to their second language as the research has shown that the degree of difficulty in learning a second language is according to how different their native language from English. A native speaker of Chinese, for example, may face many more difficulties than a native speaker of German, because German is more closely related to English than Chinese is. (Rao Sindhia, 1846) They sometimes face language shock because they experience doubt and confusion when using a second language leading them to remain under pressure. These are the big problems causing the student to feel unconfident and have negative attitude in learning that second language. “Attitudes of language learners are posited to have a significant impact of learning success since positive attitudes serve as a motivator (Abu-Melhim, 2009)”. We can see very clearly from what has been mentioned that it is almost impossible for anyone to learn a second language when they don’t have good attitude towards it because it means that they won’t open their mind, not willing to listen or try to understand it. While the student are having this negative feeling towards the second language the only hope for them to be successful is the motivation from the teacher but unfortunately, the teacher are also trying to overcome their own problems therefore the success in learning a second language can hardly happen because the teacher is having the problems on their teaching strategies and method. “Many teachers rely heavily on their instructional materials and do not seek out alternative methods for assessment and instruction,” (Porto, 2007). Most EFL teacher is still using the traditional way to teach in class and it is one of the greatest challenges faced by ESL students to find motivation to learn English. Teaching grammar has been mostly focus in class and the language is taught through explanation rather than practice therefore, the student doesn’t have enough opportunity to use the English skill. According to the research result mentioned that there are two main problems in EFL teaching strategies which are, first non-native English speaking teachers teach monolingual and monocultural classes, and most of them work in the state school sector with a heavy teaching load and prescribed curriculum. Secondly, the only teaching content areas have been literacy and grammar instruction (Borg, 2003). EFL teacher pay most of their attention in correcting the student which leads the student to have low self-efficacy and scared to speak. “Self-efficacy relates to EFL learner success because it has the power to promote success not only in the classroom context but also during practical application of English in the proverbial real-world” (Abu-Melhim, 2009; Gocer, 2010; Porto, 2007)
