However, it took the technological genius of Clarence Birdseye in the 1920s to harness the preserving power of freezing food by making the process practical. Birdseye’s development of the double-belt freezer recreated nature’s freezing process and expanded its potential by moving it beyond the limits of climate and season. Building on this ability to freeze food anywhere, any time of year, Birdseye introduced the first line of frozen foods for sale to the public in 1930 and the frozen food industry was born. As a result, frozen seafood industry started developing.
Today, Seafood is one of the largest international commodities with fish trade exceeding US$60 billion per year. Almost 200 countries supply fish and seafood products to the global marketplace consisting of more than 800 commercially important species of fish, crustaceans and mollusks.
In the future, the development of frozen seafood industry is expected to develop more because of the change in eating habits and lifestyle. Besides, more technologies will be researched and developed in frozen seafood industry to meet customer’s need and increase competitiveness among companies in this industry.
