Psychologist Carl Rogers (1961) used a term fully functioning person and described such a person as someone who is open to experience, able to live existentially, is trusting in his or her own organism, expresses feelings freely, acts independently, is creative and lives a richer life - "the good life." Persons who are integrated have a core sense of self, an independent identity. They value and affirm themselves. They have a capacity for self-insight and possess a sense of humour. They demonstrate emotional security and self-acceptance. Their behaviour is motivated by conscious processes. They have realistic perception, skills, and assignments and have the ability to deal constructively with reality.
