An average crude incidence rate for GBS for all
three investigated countries was 0.87 per 100,000
population. Literature data showed incidence as low as
0.16 per 100,000 and as high as 3.0 per 100,000 There are a fewpossible reasons why our
results are on the lower border of expected incidence.
First of all, we registered only patients from tertiary
centers, and we believe that a significant percentage
of milder patients are treated in secondary hospitals,
especially in the Republic of Srpska where incidence
was the lowest. A future plan will be to include data
from secondary centers.
