This is the countryside in the east of England. Hedgehogs, foxes, and barn owls are some of the typical English countryside wildlife. Fierce battles for life flare up here and there during spring and summer. Among them, the most dynamic battle can be the ones between European rabbits and stoats. The most well known European rabbit is “Peter Rabbit” from a popular picture book. In fact, rabbits are one of the most successful wild animals in the English countryside. Some times, rabbits form a large group of about 30 members in their warrens. Stoats, a kind of small weasel, come stalking to the rabbits. Stoats are about 20cm in height and their appearance
is adorable. However, they are carnivorous animals. A stoat can pull down a rabbit about 10 times as big as itself. On the other hand, supervised by their group leader, rabbits show good teamwork to defend themselves against little ferocious hunters.
In the programme, our filming crew displayed good teamwork to use cutting-edge technology, such as minicams, in capturing interesting behaviours of stoats in and out of their burrow. Viewers will enjoy the amazing hunting of stoats and clever teamwork of rabbits.
