optimized the culture conditions
for the production of an industrially important
alkaline protease from the fungal isolate Rhizopus
oryzae. The effects of organic and inorganic nitrogen
sources, metal ions, surfactants, fungicides and
phenolic compounds on protease production were
investigated. Organic nitrogen was found to give
better yields of protease. Economically, however,
inorganic salts are preferred for industrial production
of proteases, because of the low costs involved.
