Participants
Participant-therapists (n for Cohort A = 9; n for Cohort B = 5; n for Cohort
C = 7) included Post-Masters or Doctoral Level licensed or certified thera-
pists, in three different cohorts over several years. A majority of participants
reported being Social Workers (85.7%, n = 18), with the remaining being
Licensed Professional Counselors (9.5%, n = 2) and one Psychologist (4.8%).
These therapists were enrolled in an advanced SFT program at the Minuchin
Center in New York City, and 100% participated. Of the 21 therapists in this
sample, 17 were female (81%) and 4 were male (19%). The average age
of participating therapists was 33.24 years (SD = 7.45; Range 25–54 years).
Of the sample, 14 therapists were White (66.7%), 5 were Hispanic (23.8%),
and 2 were Asian (9.5%). The average number of years as therapists for
participants in the sample was 4.3 years (SD = 2.6; range 1–11 years). An
indirect assessment of therapist motivation may be inferred from the fact that
all therapists paid for the training themselves, though some received partial
funding from their agency.
