Conclusions
The findings indicate that Mobile Midwife could be an
excellent tool in working towards the improvement of
maternal health. Mobile Midwife may hopefully contribute
to the stepwise achievement of the SDGs extended
from the MDGs, which expire at the end of 2015. There
is need for strong political will from key stakeholders, to
embark in the field of mHealth as complementary means
to strengthen health systems. It is not merely the integration
of mHealth activities like Mobile Midwife that
will improve maternal and child health in Ghana; investments
to increase numbers of skilled birth attendants are
vital. Further research is needed, to unearth the ‘hidden’
challenges of programs such as Mobile Midwife in being
integrated into the health systems of low-resource settings.
