The location of the values at one pole of the separated-
connected dichotomy is analogous to one of poles of a number of
other dichotomies, such as masculine versus feminine, subject-
centredness versus child-centredness in teaching, and classical
versus romantic traditions in the arts and education
(Jenkins,1975). Each of the poles corresponding to separation
values rules, structure, form and objectivity, over feeling,
expression and subjectivity.
