3.2. Use records and ailments
In the questionnaire interview all informants had experience utilizing medicinal plants which average number of actual use reported was 20 per informant. The total 8762 actual use records were registered in the 14 Karen villages. These belonged to 21 use categories and were used for 122 different ailments (detailed list is available from the first author). The most frequently reported use category was Digestive System Disorders which accounted for slightly more than 21% of all use records, while Muscular–Skeletal System Disorders (13%), Infections/Infestations (13%) and Injuries (13%) also were common. Through these use categories, seven ailments that were most commonly mentioned were muscular pain, urethral stones, cough, fever, wound, diarrhea and flatulence.
