Arabidopsis HDACs can interact with various transcription factors
to repress gene expression in multiple developmental processes.
HDA15 specifically interacts with Phytochrome-Interacting
Factor 3 (PIF3), a key transcription factor involved in photomorphogenesis,
to repress chlorophyll biosynthetic gene expression
[21]. Furthermore, HDA6 associates with Asymmetric Leaves 1
(AS1) to repress the expression of KNOTTED-LIKE HOMOBOX
(KNOX) genes in the control of leaf development in Arabidopsis
[18]. Our previous yeast two-hybrid screening analysis identified
47 candidate proteins that might interact with HDA705. Among
these proteins, we identified three transcription factors (or transcription
co-factors), RSS3, RHSF10 and GAMYB-binding protein,
which play key roles in stress responses and hormone signaling
pathways [30]. It is proposed that HDA705 may associate with
these transcription factors in repressing GA biosynthetic gene
expression in rice.
