2.2. Life cycle inventory (LCI) of shopping bags
The energy and pollutants data for the functional unit considered
for different shopping bags under consideration in this present
study was taken from the previous studies (Nolan ITU et al., 2002;
ExcelPlas Australia et al., 2004) and is tabulated in Table 1 for China
and Hong Kong and Table 2 for India.
2.3. Survey results of usage and disposal behaviour
of shopping bags
The major focus of this study is to investigate the influence of
human behaviour and governmental policies on the carbon footprint
of various types of shopping bags. A survey was conducted
among students, home makers and employed professionals in
various professions of different age groups, who are the users of
shopping bags and who have the knowledge on the usage and
disposal behaviour of the same in China, Hong Kong and India. This
