One of the takeaways from the China Fisheries Expo, concluding today in Dalian, is the strong demand for importing seafood into China. This is particularly true for shrimp. China had another failure with farmed shrimp this year, with production estimated to be down 50% - and there are few signs that EMS and other problems will be resolved in 2014. Production was also hurt by a series of typhoons. This means that China will reduce shrimp exports by as much as 40% in 2014, and become an aggressive importer of shrimp, according to one of the major Guangdong producers - not something other shrimp buyers want to hear.
