Hexane manufacturing process, which is operated in temperature range, 63–70 °C, yields a product with un-desired impurities like Sulphur compounds and Benzene. Different grades of Hexane are produced based on purity and its applications in food/polymer/pharmaceutical/synthesis. Food Grade Hexane (FGH) is a commonly used solvent to extract edible oils from seeds. As per the acceptable limit of Benzene in FGH as specified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (IS3470) is 0.25% (v/v), where as the WHO (FAO & WHO, 1998) guideline the maximum permissible limit is 500 ppm.
