Dancing queen (and her king): Selah Mahaffey
Junior Selah Mahaffey pulls her boyfriend Alex Tamang by his tie in their dance-off. The couple danced the entire night at Prom on April 27. The couple competed in small dance-offs against their peers.
Prom took place at Kemp Auto Mueseum on April 27. Juniors and seniors pampered themselves for hours in order to look their best for their special evening. When students arrived, the DJ had upbeat music pumping through the room, but the dance floor did not open until 8:45 p.m. That did not stop junior Selah Mahaffey and her boyfriend, Alex Tamang, from dancing the night away.
“I absolutely love dancing; it’s fun,” Mahaffey said. “We couldn’t help but start dancing right away!”
Once the dance floor opened, Mahaffey and Tamang danced the rest of the night.
“Alex is a babe especially when it comes to dancing, so I just wanted to measure up,” Mahaffey said.
The dynamic duo took the dance floor by surprise. Immediately after opening the dance floor, prom-goers crowded the couple in a circle, representing a dance off. Who dared to challenge the smooth dancers? Junior Lorenzo Knox!
“It was just a good time dancing with them,” Knox said. “Tamang is like Michael Jackson! But we already knew Selah could dance.”
However, Knox was not the only one to fall short of the dancing duo’s standards. The prom DJ did too! The DJ pushed his way through the crowd and into the circle. Tamang stepped aside for the DJ to begin his performance by prancing around the dance circle. His prancing led to impressive break-dancing. On his hands, the DJ began spinning and tumbling his legs over the floor. Tamang, however, did not back down from the challenge.
“I loved hearing everyone scream and laugh and enjoy the show,” Tamang said. “I just loved how everyone else got into it too. Dancing with Selah and everyone else made our night very special.”
