Our data have shown growth in proteins elution by 142%
(Table 1) which is consistent with data of other investigators
(68% growth) [1] even though in our study the effect was signifi-
cantly more prominent. The difference could result also from the
parameters of the particular UV light sources and experimental
protocols.
Earlier it was speculated that rise of eluted proteins after hair
damage reflects the increasing quantity of soluble proteins in the
shaft [18]. For this reason we studied both proteins eluted from
the hair shaft fragments and soluble proteins obtained by homogenization
of hair fibers.
